Rockets' Kevin Porter Jr. facing domestic violence charges: what we know
Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and strangulation of his girlfriend, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick, on Monday. The incident occurred in a midtown Manhattan hotel room and allegedly transpired after Porter returned from a late night out, prompting Gondrezick to lock the door to the hotel room.
Porter was able to enter the room with the help of hotel security and allegedly attacked the WNBA player after entry. Police were called to the scene at 6:45 AM and placed Porter under arrest.
The New York Police Department released the following statement:
“Upon arrival officers were informed that a 26-year-old female sustained a laceration to the right side of her face and was complaining about pain to her neck,” the spokesperson said. “A preliminary investigation on scene determined that a known individual struck her multiple times upon her body and placed his hands around her neck."
Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. is facing domestic violence charges as a result of a late-night incident in New York.
Gondrezick allegedly suffered a broken bone as a result of the attack.
Houston Rockets general manager Rafael Stone declined comment on the situation.
The event is Porter's second such incident in three years, as he was accused of punching a woman in August 2020 in downtown Cleveland as w member of the Cleveland Cavaliers. According to police reports, Porter punched the woman in the face and ripped her weave off.
According to eyewitnesses, the punch allegedly knocked the woman into a refrigerator. Porter was never charged in relation to the 2020 incident and was later dealt to the Rockets near the trade deadline.
