Why the Pacers do the trade

The Pacers are set to lose Hield at the end of the season. Netting a first-round pick alone is worth it.

No other team is going to offer this much draft capital for Hield. In fact, not many teams have more draft capital than the Rockets and the ones that do are surely not ponying up a first-rounder and three second-rounders.

Why the Rockets should consider

The Rockets ranked dead last in 3-point shooting in 2022-23. And to make matters worse, their best 3-point scorer was Kevin Porter Jr., who made nearly 37 percent of his treys.

And although the Rockets spent big in free agency, they didn't exactly reel in any snipers. Enter Buddy Hield, who is easily one of the best shooters in the league.

Hield is a lethal catch-and-shoot sniper and would thrive off-the-ball. Hield would also allow the Rockets to play at a much faster pace. Rockets coach Ime Udoka has also prioritized adding veterans and Hield is entering his 8th season.

He certainly knows his role. And could help the young Rockets both on and off the court as a consummate professional.

And he'd be lethal off the Rockets' bench. Hield ranked second in threes made in each of the last four seasons and averaged 16.8 points, 5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 45.8 percent from the field, and 42.5 percent from three. Hield is also one of the league's best shooters all-tim, as he currently ranks 29th all-time in threes made and 11th among active players.

And although he's a liability on the defensive end, his offensive firepower makes up for that ten-fold.
