The Houston Rockets have rostered their share of legends. None of them compare to Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon.

He's the best player in the franchise's history. That isn't controversial. Olajuwon led the Rockets to their only championships during the 1990s. Olajuwon is on a short list of the best defenders in NBA history, and his low post scoring rivaled anyone else's in league history.

In our memories, he wears a Rockets jersey. You may picture him in the ketchup-and-mustard, or if you're a bit younger, he's wearing pinstripes. Either way, he's a Rocket. He was always a Rocket.

Wasn't he?

Nope!

Olajuwon spent his last NBA season with the Toronto Raptors. We'd like to live in our delusion, but reality beckons.

It wasn't an entirely successful season for The Dream. He averaged a career-low 7.1 points per game. At 39, Olajuwon was a shell of his former self.

The Raptors won't let us forget. The organization recently took to social media to post a cursed image of Olajuwon in purple. Jokes aside, we'll give them credit: this was a fantastic "troll".

Let's pretend it didn't happen. Either way, the Rockets need to be more focused on the present than the past. They're looking ahead. This organization is focused on the big men who are currently on their roster.

One of them just shared an amusing anecdote about another NBA legend.

Rockets big man fools legend

Steven Adams is a character.

He's one of the toughest men in the NBA, but he's affable. Adams is a gentle giant - until you cross one of his teammates. Still, he's never seemed prone to trash talk.

It seems he didn't want the smoke with Kevin Garnett.

"He was talking to someone because Kendrick Perkins and KG played together and they started mouthing off. Then I was coming up and he was like, ‘Look at the,’ and I just said, ‘No English bruv.'”

-Steven Adams

By contrast, Garnett had a legendary tongue. If he's not the first player you associate with trash talk, it's because you're old enough to remember Gary Payton.

It's part of the game. Frankly, we love it. Still, it's only for some. It seems like Adams would rather pretend not to speak his native tongue than engage in a battle of words with Garnett.

That's fine too. Adams lets his game - and his immense frame - do the talking. We're looking forward to seeing what he brings to the Rockets in 2024-25:

Just don't expect Hakeem Olajuwon.
