The Rockets paying Kevin Porter Jr. was always the right decision. What we have seen through the first few games of the season backs that thought up well.

When the Rockets gave Kevin Porter Jr. a contract and locked him down for the future, some fans and analysts wondered aloud whether this was the right decision for a franchise that needed a consistent piece to pair with Jalen Green for the future.

Those people are silent now. The answer about whether paying KPJ was the right decision is very clear at this point.

While seven games is nothing crazy for a sample size, Porter is leading Houston in minutes, points per game, assists per game, steals, and is second in rebounds. KPJ has been all over the court, and while the turnovers (also leading the team) hurt, they appear to be worth it when the return on those minutes is so much production.

This has been a great start to a season for a guy that really needed it. There were questions about whether the one in Houston was the one of the future, and the fact that he has played so well should be a reassuring sign for a young team that has a bright future ahead if it can keep guys on the roster and keep them developing.

There are still certainly areas where KPJ can improve (such as with turnovers and some efficiency stats), but this start to the season has shown far more good than bad.

This is exactly what the Rockets needed. Wins might not start coming just yet, but guys of the future balling out and developing is a good sign for a team that needs something to look towards on the horizon.
