The Rockets had some bright moments in their first half versus the Hawks, but the turnovers are going to be a major issue if they aren't addressed very soon.

The first half of the season opener is in the books for the Houston Rockets. There were plenty of moments that should excite everyone as far as the future of this young group is concerned, but there were also some clear issues that persist from last season.

The largest of these issues is the rampant turnovers that killed Houston's offense.

The Rockets finished the first half with nine total turnovers. That number is simply unacceptable.

When looking at the players individually, Kevin Porter Jr. was the first name that shouldn't surprise anyone. KPJ came out playing well and has been a huge part of the offense tonight, but there are turnovers that are still associated with the transition to point guard that we saw plenty of last season.

Another name with turnovers that was a bit more surprising was center Alperen Sengun.

After getting taken out of the starting lineup in favor of Bruno Fernando, one would think that Sengun would come out with a fire under him, but that just wasn't what we saw. Sloppiness with turnovers is not how the Turkish center is going to show the team that it made a mistake with the starting lineup.

One way or another, the Rockets absolutely have to find a way to squash this problem before it derails more games down the road. There are obviously going to be some growing pains as players get used to the speed of the game or new teammates, but mistakes like the ones we've seen won't help if the Rockets are going to prove that this season is actually going to go differently.
