On Wednesday the Houston Rockets introduced Ime Udoka as the 15th Head Coach in franchise history. Udoka, Rockets general manager Rafael Stone, and team owner Tilman Fertitta met with the media to discuss the hiring process.

Fertitta praised Udoka's ability to command a locker room with a team desperately looking for a culture change.

Fertitta stated:
"He's going to hold these guys to toughness, respectability, accountability...It's everything that I like when running a business."

Fertitta continued:
"It was a tough decision but it wasn't. There was one person that we felt was an exceptional candidate to take us to the next level... He is everything that the Rockets were looking for."

Takeaways from Ime Udoka's press conference with the Houston Rockets

Of course, we can't talk about the hiring of Udoka without mentioning his year suspension for having an inappropriate relationship with a woman on the Celtics' staff. Although, the suspension happened so quickly and randomly; Udoka spoke about the consequences he dealt with while holding himself accountable.

From a basketball standpoint, Udoka quickly ensured that the talented youth on this team wouldn't be an excuse for lousy basketball. It's refreshing to hear a coach come out and say this because there were too many times when Stephen Silas wouldn't show any backbone towards the team.

Udoka shared his excitement about joining the organization because of the high amount of cap space (a projected $61 million, which leads the league) and the roster itself. Players such as Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, and Jabari Smith should see tremendous upside as Udoka showcased the development of superstar Jayson Tatum.

Udoka already plans to meet with the team following his press conference and there is hope that the Rockets will trend upwards.
