The Houston Rockets have rostered a lot of talented players over the years. Tracy McGrady is one of the most talented, and now he'll join the NBA on NBC crew.

Different Rockets fans will have different feelings about that. For some, McGrady fell short of expectations. Others love him. He left a complicated legacy in the NBA.

Let's take a look back at an immensely talented player

Former Rockets superstar to become television regular

McGrady's most productive seasons came with the Orlando Magic. In 2002-03, he averaged an absurd 32.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game with a Box Plus/Minus (BPM) of 9.3.

He'd never reach those heights in Houston, but he was still a star. McGrady's best year in Space City was his first. In 2004-05, he averaged 25.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game with a BPM of 6.9

In time, McGrady would take a backseat to Yao Ming. That's another reason fans ought to remember him fondly. McGrady recognized that his game scaled down more easily than Ming's, and willingly took on a second option role.

In 2007-08, that duo reached its apex. The Rockets won 22 straight games en route to a 57-win season. They had serious championship aspirations. Unfortunately, they were derailed by injuries. Ming got injured 55 games into the season and would never be the same again.

McGrady would also suffer an injury. The Rockets declined from there until rebuilding their way into the James Harden era. McGrady deserves to be remembered fondly for contributing significantly to some fantastic Rockets teams.

Now, fans will get a chance to remember him far more often.

Rockets legend brings personality to the team
