Has any team in the NBA had a busier summer than the Houston Rockets?

It started with the Kevin Durant deal. That blockbuster trade was perhaps the biggest news of the NBA summer so far.

But the Rockets weren't done yet.

The team also brought in 3-and-D wing Dorian Finney-Smith. He'll be a significant win-now upgrade for the squad. Surely, that's enough for Houston, right?

Wrong.

Instead, the Rockets made another free agency move by reuniting with Clint Capela. With Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams on the roster, this is a puzzling move.

Unless...

Rockets could make bigger moves down the line

Could this signal an impending blockbuster deal?

Some whispers are forming. Capela signed a 3-year, $21 million dollar deal with Houston. That's not an earthshattering deal, but it's a lot of money for a third-string big.

So, there's reason to speculate that an Alperen Sengun trade could be in the works. It sounds crazy, but it can't be ruled out. Rack your brain all night, and you'll only come up with one suitable target:

Giannis Antetokounmpo.

It's hard to imagine who else the Rockets could trade Sengun for and answer to this fanbase. It's something to monitor:

But it might be nothing at all.

Rockets like size a lot

The Rockets may see rebounding as a market inefficiency.

Last year, they were the best offensive rebounding team in the NBA. Perhaps this is about ensuring that that's the case in 2025-26.

Put differently - yes, this is a big money contract for a third string big. It's not outrageously expensive if you've put a particular value on big men. The Rockets want to play bully ball at any cost.

It's fair to say that Steven Adams is injury prone. This could be insurance. Rockets fans shouldn't jump to conclusions. It's possible that the organization was simply willing to pay for an expensive third string big to maintain that advantage. With that said:

Keep an eye on the situation.
