Houston Rockets Vegas Summer League Schedule Released

With the Golden State Warriors crowned the 2015 NBA Champions the next order of business is the NBA Draft set for June 25. I’ve already entered detox mode without a daily game or program discussing the playoffs, but relief is right around the corner.

Following the draft those of us anxious to see the top draft picks in action will get the best opportunity prior to the start of next season via summer league action. Once again there will be 3 summer leagues taking place. The first takes place in Orlando July 4-10 with Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder and two teams from the host Orlando Magic participating. The second occurs in Utah from July 6-9 with just 4 teams participating: Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers and the host Utah Jazz

However the big kahuna of the summer leagues occurs in Las Vegas from July 10 – 20 featuring 23 NBA teams as well as a team formulated from the best of the D-League. All 4 of the Conference Finalists and 14 of the 16 2015 playoff teams will participate.

For Rockets fans it will be their first chance to get an in game look at Houston’s 18th and 32nd pick from this coming Thursday’s draft.  In addition, Nick Johnson, K.J. McDaniels, Kostas Papanikolaou and Clint Capela will likely be members of the squad the Rockets  bring to Nevada.

Last season 2 of the top ten dunks came courtesy of the Rockets Johnson and Donatas Motiejunas:

Schedule:

The Rockets are guaranteed to play 5 games and the first three are already scheduled:

Game 1 – Friday, July 10 versus the  DLeague Select at 10:00 PM ET at the Cox Pavilion

Game 2 – Sunday, July 12 versus the Phoenix Suns at 4:30 PM ET at the Thomas & Mack Center

Game 3 – Monday, July 13 versus the Toronto Raptors at 10:00 PM ET once again at the Cox Pavilion

Following these preliminary games all teams will be ranked and participate in a double elimination tournament running from July 15 to 20. For the full schedule you can visit this link.

Day 1 allows us an opportunity to see the new Rockets and also features the top 2 draft picks from this year lining up against one another. Last season one of the highlights of the event was when the top two rookies: Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker faced off against each other. Similar to big games in the NBA, this game had people lining up to get tickets to see these two rookies face off and odds are the same thing will occur when likely top picks Karl-Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor meet.
