The Houston Rockets will host the Dallas Mavericks at Toyota Center to kick off their three game home stand. Can Houston get back in the win column?
The Houston Rockets will look to get back on track on Sunday afternoon after suffering back-to-back losses on their two-game road trip.
The Dallas Mavericks will make the short trip to Houston to take on their cross-state rivals. The Mavs have won four games in a row and they hold the sixth spot in the west with a 10-5 record. Coming into the season, the Mavs were excited to see how Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, the team’s young dynamic duo, would look together on the court. Porzingis has played solid basketball, but the 20-year-old from Slovenia has stolen the show.
Luka Doncic is averaging 29.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and 9.7 assists in just 33.9 minutes per game. In just his second season, Doncic is likely to be included in MVP talks and appears to be a lock to make his first appearance at the All-Star game.
Houston’s defenders will have their hands full with Doncic, and it will take a team effort to keep him in check. Like Harden, Doncic loves to utilize the step-back 3-pointer, but he can also get to the rim and finish in traffic.
These teams split the season series last year 2-2, but the Mavericks are clearly a much improved team this season. Houston will need a lot of production from James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Clint Capela once again in this game, and hopefully Ben McLemore, Austin Rivers or P.J. Tucker can play a key supporting role with a hot shooting night.
