McHale shares thoughts on Rockets’ offseason needs

With the Rockets’ offseason officially underway, former Rockets coach Kevin McHale shared his thoughts on the moves Rockets general manager Daryl Morey needs to make, while citing the series against the Lakers. McHale was on NBA TV immediately after the Rockets’ Game 5 loss and said the below:

“A couple of big guys that are very versatile, that can guard and switch. But just to have a next level guy there, that’s just bigger. They were 15-10 after they traded Clint Capela. I just think going as small as they did isn’t going to work.

They need two or three guys who are 6’8, 6’9, 6’10. Long, athletic guys that can dribble hand-offs. When you roll to the rim with those guys, there’s always the threat of a lob and they can finish at the basket.

They didn’t run alot of pick-and-rolls after Capela left, but they had nobody that could even finish at the basket. A couple of times, their guards were going up against LeBron and AD and they just couldn’t finish around the basket.

So, I just have to believe they have to find some bigger players.”
