The Houston Rockets are well-represented in this year's NBA All-Star weekend.

Alperen Sengun made the biggest waves. He was named to his first All-Star team. Significantly, this is the first All-Star designation for this iteration of the Rockets. That's a meaningful milestone for a team that spent 3 years in the league's doldrums. Sengun's All-Star appearance puts the new-look Rockets on the map.

Strictly speaking, Amen Thompson did not earn an All-Star nod. That would have been a rare feat as a sophomore. He did represent the Rockets in the Rising Stars tournament.

He did so well that he's (kind of?) getting an All-Star appearance anyway.

Rockets' Amen Thompson chosen for All-Star tournament

In tournament play, Thompson had 11 points on 5/6 shooting from the field to go with 2 rebounds and 2 assists in 11 minutes. Sure, his team lost to the G-League team. Let's not pay too much mind to the results of an exhibition game unless it suits our narrative, OK?

He caught Candice Parker's attention. She added him to her Rising Stars team. Thompson will now participate in the inaugural All-Star tournament.

What should Rockets fans expect?

Rockets' Amen Thompson should dazzle in All-Star game

Let's be honest. The Rising Stars team are lame ducks. They've got little chance of winning a game in this tournament.

Who knows? The opposition could let their foot off the gas. These young guys will be hungrier for a win than players who've participated in multiple All-Star games. Still, even in that event, pride should kick in before the vets take a loss to the youngsters.

That's not the point. Thompson's stock around the NBA is tangibly improving. He's got people talking.

He looks the part of a future superstar.

Rockets' Amen Thompson is a Rising Star

He's indomitable. Inenivtable. Any NBA fan who's been watching the league long enough knows what they're seeing as Thompson ascends.

Is he flawed? You bet. Thompson is still a non-shooter. That's something the Rockets may have to address with roster construction. Defenses converge on the paint when Thompson is playing point guard, and he turns the ball over frequently as a result.

He's also special. Thompson is one of the most singular athletes in NBA history. His tremendous mind for the game only substantiates his impact. This is a player who will find a way to shine.

Now, he's got a whole new stage to do it on.
