The Houston Rockets saw Daryl Morey build an annual contender around James Harden, so they know all too well his love for trading and chasing top talent. That is why his plan to trade the third overall pick in this year’s draft is not surprising, but what he's searching for will be too funny. Jake Fischer reported Morey is fielding calls to trade back (subscription required) and has no plans of trading Paul George. His love for stars and need to make moves are absolutely sinking his current team.

The Rockets are chasing a superstar this summer, and Giannis Antetokounmpo is the name on every fan's tongue. Houston needs a marquee scorer, but Morey has three in Philly which adds to the comedy of his latest plan.

The Rockets never picked higher than 14th in the Morey era. They had the 12th selection in 2012 but shipped it to Oklahoma City to land Harden. The 52-year-old never valued the draft, despite making some strong selections, but he loved to make moves.

Rockets fans can only laugh as Daryl Morey hasn’t changed a bit

No lead executive makes more trades than Morey. He loves to churn his roster and try to maximize every spot. Since arriving in Philadelphia in 2020, Ben Simmons, James Harden, and Paul George have been Joel Embiid’s co-stars. Just like the Rockets went through several marquee names next to their alpha in Harden.

The only one way Paul George leaves the 76ers this offseason is Morey finding a star upgrade. His desire to trade back from number three is in part because analytics don’t value the projected selection, Ace Bailey. A larger piece is accumulating assets for his next marquee move. Philadelphia has a ton of uncertainty with Embiid and George’s health. They could quickly pivot to building around Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain, but Morey needs assets to trade in that case.

Morey left Houston when he knew they were heading for a rebuild. He is not going to let the Sixers tank. He will try to flip Embiid and George if things go south again. That will take multiple assets and a franchise willing to accept the risk. Morey always finds a way, but getting a few extra picks by trading back helps any deal.

Houston Rockets fans know exactly how this will go. Daryl Morey will find a trade that gets him precisely what he is looking for. He turned the roster over multiple times in Space City and has done it again in Philly. This is just the latest move to keep the Sixers relevant. Morey will be searching for his next soon enough.

Rockets fans are thankful they don’t have to deal with feeling stuck and always chasing the next move anymore. Morey is putting that strain on 76ers fans now and all Houston supporters can do is relate.
