Rockets next move should be painfully obvious after latest developments

With how well they are shooting at EuroBasket, the Houston Rockets should sign Tyler Dorsey or Andreas Obst.

The Houston Rockets should consider signing Tyler Dorsey (or Andreas Obst), as both players are shooting the lights out at EuroBasket and could help patch one of the team’s biggest concerns: Three-point shooting. Houston wasn’t a great three-point shooting team last year, and despite the Kevin Durant addition, they could still use some help in that area.

A quick perusal of the NBA free agency market, and there aren’t a ton of great shooters. However, if the Rockets use EuroBasket as a baseline, some very intriguing options pop up. Dorsey is the most obvious of the bunch, as he has NBA experience and has attempted a return before, but Obst could be an option, too.

Bringing one of the two players on board would be a great move for the Rockets.

Why should the Rockets sign Tyler Dorsey?

Listed at 6-foot-5, Dorsey has spent the past few years playing overseason ball. He played for Olympiacos last season and has been competing in the EuroLeague with various teams since 2019-20.

Dorsey has been representing Greece at EuroBasket this summer, and his three-point shot has been lethal. Through his first four games of the tournament, Dorsey shot 42.9 % from deep on 7.0 attempts per contest. He’s averaging 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists.

At 29 years old, Dorsey is what he is as a basketball player. But plenty of veteran guards have found second winds in their careers as of late. Just look at Kris Dunn and Dante Exum.

If Dorsey can shoot the ball well, he could be a fun signing for the Rockets to consider (even if it’s just for a training camp look).

Why should the Rockets sign Andreas Obst?

This idea is a bit more out of left field, as Obst has never appeared in the NBA, and there’s no guarantee he would be interested in a move to the United States.

That said, Obst has been one of the best three-point shooters in the world for years now, dominating the three-point line in the German league year after year. He hasn’t shot below 39% from three since the 2019-20 season.

For Germany at EuroBasket, nothing has changed. Through four games, Obst is shooting 63.6% from deep on 5.5 three-point attempts per game.

Like Dorsey, Obst is 29 years old, but his three-point shooting would be an incredible addition to the Rockets’ rotation.

Bringing in a three-point specialist would round out Houston’s roster beautifully.
