2. Assist percentage

Tinkering with the personnel would be useful. That doesn't mean that the work stops there. The Rockets could also stand to add some new wrinkles to their offense.

After all, their assist percentage of 59.4% ranked 27th in the NBA in 2023-24. That's not a catch-all stat for success by any means. The basement-dwelling San Antonio Spurs led the NBA in the same category at 71.2%.

Still, this offense appeared stagnant at times. Fred VanVleet was a sturdy hand at point guard with one of the best assist-to-turnover ratios in the league. Otherwise, the Rockets could look to some of their younger stars to alter their approach.

Perhaps more on-ball reps for Amen Thompson would help. He's got impressive floor vision. If he can improve his handle and/or his shot, he could mix up Houston's offense with some more on-ball reps in 2024-25.
