NBA2K25: Rockets fans should rejoice over recently released ratings
It's 2K season, folks. NBA2K25 is due to be released on September 6.
Houston Rockets fans won't be the only ones keeping an eye on player ratings. The entire NBA-watching world is waiting to see how their favorite players are rated.
We're not going to say that everyone cares. Some older fans may be perplexed. Why are these kids so fixated on a video game?
Firstly - are you new to earth? Kids have been fixated on video games since Duck Hunt. Moreover, 2K isn't simply a video game. It's the most realistic NBA simulation ever created. That's why the ratings matter.
Rockets fans shouldn't be losing any sleep. They've already got two players in the top 60. Do they deserve to be there?

Fred VanVleet and Jalen Green are both rated 84 overall.
Every year, 2K's ratings inspire some interesting conversations. VanVleet and Green are both rated 84. Should we conclude that they're equal players?
That would be overly reductive. Firstly, it's worth saying that 2K's ratings are not definitive. Every advanced metric suggests that VanVleet was a more productive player than Green in 2023-24. Nobody would dispute VanVleet's rating unless they argued it ought to be higher.
As with any major company, 2K is accountable to the market. Green is a wildly popular player - that will inflate his rating. Even then, we'd assume that 2K is baking some assumed improvement into his rating.
Here's hoping they're right. In the meantime, one Rockets star hasn't even appeared in the game's released ratings yet.
That means he'll be inside the league's top 50.
NBA2K confirms that the Rockets have a star
Clearly, we're talking about Alperen Sengun.
According to 2K, Rudy Gobert is the 51st-best player in the NBA. He's rated 85 overall. So, we can deduce that Sengun will be at least 85.
If the last set of leaks is any indication, he'll be 86. Yet, those leaks were confirmed to be subject to change when they were released. Could Sengun be rated 87 - or even higher?
We'll see. One thing is clear - Sengun was the best player on the Rockets in 2023-24. He deserves to be the highest-rated player on this team. We'll see if that trend continues throughout 2024-25. Here's hoping Green is rated higher than 84 by the end of the season:
We know Rockets fans will be keeping an eye on that number.
