The Houston Rockets have a long-standing rivalry with the Warriors. Some recent comments from Alperen Sengun are likely to fan the already burning flames.
Some will question how this rivalry could get any hotter. The Rockets and Warriors have been going to war for some time. The fact that the Warriors eliminated the Rockets last season only exacerbated the issues.
To hear Sengun tell it, there was a less-than-savory reason why the Warriors won that series.
Rockets' Alperen Sengun makes explosive comments about Warriors
"They fouled a lot. In the playoffs, they don't call it, but they were the ones crying all series about fouls not being called"
-Alperen Sengun on the Warriors
Oh boy.
Warriors fans will not like that. Understandable. Nobody wants to be accused of foul play.
Does Sengun have a point?
Rockets fans are well-acquainted with the Warriors
Let's be perfectly honest:
Yes.
Have you heard of a moving screen? If you're a Warriors fan, perhaps not. So, it would be appropriate to review the rules.
When a player sets a screen, his feet are supposed to be planted. If he moves his feet, he commits a foul:
Unless he plays for the Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors have inexplicably been getting away with those fouls for over a decade. Yet, that's only half of Sengun's point. Do the Warriors do more crying than average?
Well, the Warriors as a whole may not. Draymond Green certainly does. If crying were a sport, he'd be a two-sport athlete. Green is among the most rule-bending players in NBA history, but somehow, everyone is always conspiring against him.
Do he and his Warriors deserve any credit?
Rockets must take Warriors seriously
Of course.
Listen - I could write about a Rockets fan's frustrations with the Warriors all day. They're numerous. The Warriors have been a thorn in the Rockets' side for what feels like an eternity.
And yes - they commit a lot of fouls. Yes, Draymond Green commits a huge portion of them and still has the audacity to complain to the referees ad nauseam. Wait - where was this going?
Oh yeah - the Curry-era Warriors are one of the best teams in NBA history. Steph Curry's shooting is perhaps the most singular skill a player has ever had. For all the criticisms you could make of Golden State, you can't say they haven't been impressive.
Luckily, 2025-26 is the first season where the Rockets are better on paper in a long time. After adding former Warrior Kevin Durant, they should be the better team this year:
God willing.
